He was on the street peddling his music. I saw him and thought, that's an easy way to start this project. He was very excited about sharing his music with me. He was young. Probably 24. He lived in Portland all his life and began rapping early on. He lives in a house with his girlfriend and hopes to get that big record break. We talked extensively about dreams and passion. We shared the idea that if you love something you you shouldn't let anyone or anything get in your way. Randy looked like he'd been through a lot and I wasn't ready to pry so much on my first day. He offered to wrap for me but warned me that it would sound a little mysoginistic. I told it him it didn't matter I was only interested on hearing his story. There was a lot of vitriol no doubt in his rap but he definitely had talent. I gave him ten dollars and thanked him for being so warm. He gave me his cd and his friend's cd that he was also peddling. Said he could sell about a hundred of them a week.
