Today I took a trip out to City Island with my buddy Kevin. City Island is a small island approximately 1.5 miles long and .5 miles wide. I was there last summer where I had the best scallops I've ever eaten in my life. I went back today on my day off to have some scallops and find a new subject for today.
John's shop had an old marine rustic vibe to it. The shop itself was an unorganized collection of marine supplies that were worn by water and time. There were old paintings on the wall depicting sailboats and fishing boats and in one corner of the store was a group of several Danforth anchors. The shop was loaded with so much Kevin and I weren't even sure if there was a point of entry.
John has lived on City Island most of his life. When I asked him about his background he explained to me his most recent discovery of his Latvian roots. This is the second shop John has owned. Everything from his last place was moved into what now exists.
